About Whiting Elks Lodge #1273 The first class initiated into the Whiting lodge totaled 74 candidates, one of whom, Joseph B. Kyle, went on in 1950 to become Grand Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.E., Elkdoms highest officer. On October 9th, 1920, Vater Hall in the 1500 block of 119th Street was purchased for the use of the growing young lodge. Four years later in May of 1924 the present building was purchased from Standard Oil, and has served as the Lodges home ever since. For it's almost century in the Whiting-Robertsdale community, the Whiting Elks have been cautious to practice Elkdoms four cardinal virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity. This endeavor has gained the respect and admiration of the entire community. This is underscored by the fact that seven Elks have served in the capacity of Mayor of Whiting, other members play a prominent role in the commerce, industry and education in the Calumet Region. 2000-2001 Officers
